Lawrence Plays Host to Distant High Schools

Trio of South Dakota High School Baseball Teams Travel to Lawrence

Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, and Brandon Valley all traveled to Lawrence last weekend for some early season baseball action.

Lawrence High School and Free State High School both got their feet wet in game action this week. However, they were far from normal opponents, instead being from South Dakota.

Both high schools hosted a number of games. Joining Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, and Brandon Valley were Raymore-Peculiar of Missouri and Maize South of Wichita.

All the teams took plenty of learning experiences away from the early season event.

Sioux Falls O’Gorman Coach, Dale Hewings, views the season differently than the average coach.

“And I told the kids, before tonight, (we had) there’s three seasons; you have non-conference, conference, and then the playoffs. We’re 1-0 right now,” Hewings said.

Brandon Valley Coach, Corey Hannel, credits the preseason prep as a big reason for the success his team found.

“You know I think our kids have a lot of confidence right now, we’re playing well. We did have a good preseason and I think we prepared ourselves playing good teams in the preseason for teams like this,” Hannel said.

All three South Dakota teams ended up picking up at least one win in their three tries.

Trips like these help to bring teams together and prepare them for the postseason. It also helps when you go out and win some games like these teams did.
