Kansas Gubernatorial Candidates Debate Before Midterms Blog Local 11/02/2018 Tweet Kansas Gubernatorial candidates went head to head in Wichita in the final debate before the election. Republican Kris Kobach, Democrat Laura Kelly, and Independent Greg Orman faced off on hot button issues. They split three ways on many points including transgender bathroom policies, legalized marijuana, and the Brownback tax experiment. Candidates were also asked by the moderators to say something nice about each of their opponents, in which each candidate praised the others in some sort of way. A few hours before Tuesday’s debate, Independent candidate Greg Orman’s treasurer left his campaign and endorsed his democratic competitor Laura Kelly. Orman has been trailing in the polls but threatens to take votes from both parties. That could keep both opponents from winning a majority. Election Day is November 6.
