Kansas State University Distances Itself from Controversial Image Blog 09/16/2016 Tweet Kansas State University is attempting to distance itself from at least one former student who posted a picture with a racially-charged message on Snapchat. The controversial image originated from the account of Paige Shoemaker, a former Kansas State student, who posted a photo of her and her friend Sadie Meier wearing skin-care face masks that darkened their faces. The image was captioned with a racial slur. Thousands of viewers have shared the photo on social media, and the post is continuing to trend, having made national news on platforms such as USA Today. Shoemaker says viewers have blown the situation out of proportion, but thousands of Kansans and Americans continue to show their disdain for the image and its caption. Kansas State University spokesman Jeff Morris says Shoemaker nor Meier are currently enrolled at the university, but one was enrolled last spring.
