Tornado Watch in Effect for Douglas County

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for over 50 Kansas counties, including Douglas.

Primary threats include damaging winds up to 75 miles per hour and large hail up to two inches in diameter.

Several thunderstorms are also moving across the Great Lakes including northern Indiana and Ohio, and are expected to continue moving eastward.

According to the Kansas City Star, there are nearly 30 public tornado shelters at various locations along the Kansas Turnpike. The storm shelters are underground and open to all travelers and transit employees seeking shelter in a storm.
