Plans for New Mental Health Facility in Lawrence Blog News 12/07/2015 Tweet A town hall meeting tonight (12/7/15) has been set to discuss the approval on a mental health intervention center. County Administrator Craig Weinaug says this is the sixth meeting about the center and he hopes tonight everything will be approved. The meeting will include discussion of funding and an open forum for questions. The project’s team is made up of criminal justice consultants, KU researchers and the Bert Nash Community Health Center. Project members indicated that 18 percent of people in the Douglas County Jail have serious mental illness. 80 percent of those individuals have never been convicted of a violent offense. If the plan is approved, officials hope to get an architect on the project early January.
