Twelve artists currently have their artwork on display in an exhibit titled "Biodiversity Is" at the University of Kansas Natural History Museum.
Local artist Daniel Coburn is one of the artists whose work is now on display. Coburn, who says he is interested in creating art that brings together elements of science with elements of art, took a series of photographs that he says portrays animals that have evolved at a rapid pace to adapt to the impact of human beings.
"I think whenever you can combine science and art to make an educational experience both for people wanting to learn more about science as well as people wanting to learn more about art, both disciplines can benefit from that," Coburn says.
Thomas Hardy, assistant visitor services coordinator at the Natural History Museum, says biodiversity is an important part of maintaining ecosystems and a stable environment.
"The exhibit explores the state of biodiversity and increases awareness about global warming, habitat loss and how that affects biodiversity," Hardy says.
"Biodiversity Is" opened last week and will run through the rest of the semester.
