Despite increased gas prices and rainy weather, the Haskell Indian Art Market Haskell Indian Art Markethas not downsized, with still almost 150 Native American artist vendors from about 20 different states set to attend the event this weekend.
Haskell Indian Nations University is preparing for its 20th annual Haskell Indian Art Market to go on rain or shine.
Potential buyers will have the opportunity to meet artists from 30 to 40 different tribes and hear their inspiration for their art pieces. The art market operates on an honor system that requires artists to be a member of a federally recognized Native American tribe. Art ranges from pottery to jewelry and many other styles.
"Despite the rain, we hope that we have good attendance and the community comes out, the public, and enjoys Haskell and Haskell campus and the art market and everything that it entails," says David Tah, co-chair of Haskell Indian Art Market.
The goal of the art market is to give students at Haskell University the opportunity to showcase their artwork and give back revenue to the student groups that helped them.
