The University of Kansas men's basketball team received a verbal commitment from Royce Woolridge to play for the Jayhawks in 2010.

Woolridge, a 6-foot-2 sophomore at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, Ariz., is the son of former NBA player Orlando Woolridge. Royce becomes the youngest player ever to commit to play for the University of Kansas. However, the swiftness of his decision did not concern the young recruit.

"That's what I want," said Woolridge. "So why wait?"

Anthony Ray, Woolridge's AAU coach, thinks Royce will contribute immediately once he puts on the Jayhawk uniform.

"He just might be the best scorer in the Class of 2010," said Ray. "He can score off the dribble or standing still. It doesn’t make a difference. He can get a basket whenever he wants to."

Woolridge averaged 21 points per game as a freshman in high school and played last weekend in an AAU tournament where he averaged 36 points per game. His father played 13 years in the NBA and averaged 16 points per game for his career. Royce will join Kansas for the 2010-11 season.
