A geologist's presentation of a mastodon's leg bone was one of hundreds of fossils identified Sunday at KU's Natural History Museum.
KU specialists in geology, paleontology and paleobotany identified specimens from public attendees at the event, "What on Earth? Rocks, Fossils and Meteorites".
Jill Krebs, collections manager at the museum, said public interest for the event was increased with the recent release of the National Geographic movie, "Sea Monsters".
"Kansas is practically the center of the world for certain kinds of fossils," Krebs said. "We're a very fossiliferous state."
Those who weren't able to attend Sunday will get another chance to have their rocks and bones identified in the spring.
