KU students are receiving attention for their film's title: "The Devil is an Ass".
In cooperation with local filmmakers, the crew has spent the past 10 months filming a present-day version of playwright Ben Jonson's work from 1616.
Jeremy Riggs, director of the film, said this adaptation was the first for Jonson's plays, so actors and actresses from the West coast to New York were asking to audition.
"Weekly, we receive e-mails, phone calls from people in the industry in Los Angeles wanting to know if they can help or if we're still hiring," Riggs said.
He said he would hold off on signing a contract for the film, which is set for completion in May 2008. Though distribution companies have already contacted Riggs, he plans to show his adaptation at international and regional film festivals first.
The modern film is set in London, and some of the scenes were shot in the Kansas Union.
