The Brown Bag Drag Show attracted a large crowd Friday at the Kansas Union. This is the 14th consecutive year the group has put on the show. Jonathan Pryor, director of Queers and Allies, said one motive behind the show was to get the whole University involved.
"It's also just to show the diversity that we have on campus and that Queers and Allies brings to KU," Pryor said.
The drag show gives Queers and Allies its biggest attendance for any of the events. The show is usually held outside the Kansas Union, but was moved to Woodruff Auditorium because of the unexpected cold weather. The Union had to find a room big enough to accommodate the 500 to 1,000 spectators that typically show up.
"It's exciting, it's lots of fun. I think it's a wonderful event and we've looked foward to it all week ." said Marla Herron, Lawrence resident.
Daisy Bucket, the show's emcee, sang several popular songs alongside other entertainers. She was signed up by a friend for today's ceremony.
"Every year it comes by and I miss it. I was like well this is something, I gotta get in on," said Bucket.
A small group of protesters were also present at the event. Pryor said the they continued the show despite the demonstration.
