Taxpayers might be faced with confusion when trying to understand the new Katrina tax law. KU business students hope to help. Students have created a web site that will inform people of the tax changes and assit them in making sure their tax advisors are preparing accurate tax returns.
The Katrina tax relief web site, created by graduate students, helps decipher new changes in tax law and offers concrete examples to make tax provisions easier to comprehend. Sections of the new law were broken down and assigned to students to interpret. The students dissected the tax code and recreated it in a language that was easy for people to understand. Assistant Professor, Raquel Alexander said this experience has been beneficial for students.
"It was an opportunity for them to develop their tax analysis skills as well as work on their communication skills," Alexander said.
The web site is ready to help people prepare for 2005.
