The University of Kansas baseball team enjoyed the friendly confines of Hoglund Ballpark by sweeping the Leathernecks of Western Illinois.

The Jayhawks were able to hold off a late inning rally and defeated the Leathernecks 5-4 in the opening game of the series Friday night.

Due to the inclement weather, the Saturday game was postponed to Sunday forcing the two teams to play a doubleheader on Sunday.

Kansas starting pitcher Ricky Fairchild went a career-best seven innings as the Jayhawks defeated the Leathernecks 11-3 in game one of the doubleheader.

The Jayhawks were able to sweep the doubleheader and series as Kansas sophomore Erik Morrison went 2-for-4 behind the plate, connecting for two home runs and five RBI's as the Jayhawks closed the weekend with a 7-1 win.

Kansas improves their overall record to 13-4 on the season and pushes their winning streak to seven straight.

With the hot streak, Kansas earned a 25 ranking in the Baseball America Poll and is one of five Big 12 teams to be ranked.
