It was a night full of emotion and excitement. Miss Kansas sang the National Anthem and KU's Alma Matter. Max Faulkenstien broadcast his last game from Allen Fieldhouse and four seniors bid farewell to the Jayhawk faithful.
Then, what might be the most exciting moment of the night happened. Moments after the buzzer sounded, ending KU's 75-54 victory over Colorado, the Texas A&M vs. Texas game final score flashed across the Allen Fieldhouse scoreboard. Texas A&M 46 Texas 43. A loud roar came from the fieldhouse stands and high-fives went across the Kansas bench. On what couldn't be a more perfect night, Kansas was back in a tie for first place in the Big 12.
Kansas (21-7, 12-3 Big 12) opened the game starting all the seniors on a 19-4 run. Colorado (18-8, 8-7 Big 12) was shut- out early, only mustering 15 points in the first half. Colorado's frustrations got to them early when CU coach, Ricardo Patton was assessed with a technical foul after what he thought was a no-call on a foul.
"In the first half we couldn't make shots, " Patton said. "But you have to go down to the other end and make baskets and we didn't do that."
Kansas got loose in the second half, allowing Colorado to come within eight points with a little more than four minutes to play. Freshman Mario Chalmers nailed a three on the next posession, allowing the Hawks to break out and extend the lead to a 21 point win.
Kansas travels to Manhattan, Kan. to take on Kansas State (15-11, 6-9 Big 12) 3 p.m. Saturday at roudy Bramlage Coliseum.
