The Lawrence City Commission passed the new marijuana ordinance Tuesday night by a vote of three to two.
Because of the new ordinance, students convicted of marijuana violations are no longer at risk of losing federal financial aid.
Effects of the ordinance
- Students will not lose financial aid
- Marijuana cases heard in municipal court
- $200 fine, mandatory evaluation
Now, cases involving marijuana possession will be heard in municipal court instead of district court.
The penalty for possession of marijuana is now a $200 fine and a mandatory evaluation of the offender.
