Drivers could be better protected from future accidents thanks to beacon lights the Kansas Department of Transportation plans to install.
Workers began surveying a stretch of Highway 10 east of Lawrence near the East Hills Business Park today.
The intersection leading into the plaza has been the location of numerous high profile accidents in recent years.
The Department of Transportation is planning to install actuated video detection beacons in an attempt to prevent future accidents.
The beacons will flash at the intersection indicating to drivers to reduce their speed.
According to the department this is the first effort to reduce the danger of the intersection. The department isn't certain when the beacons will be installed.
KDOT workers began surveying Highway 10 Wednesday. Plans are in the works to install beacon lights to increase driver protection.
