President Bush took his State of the Union agenda on the road Wednesday after Tuesday night's national address. The president is supporting research on alternative energy sources because he claims America is too dependent on foreign oil.

Kansas congressmen are praising President Bush's efforts. Four wind energy projects are currently operating in Kansas, and 15 more sites have been proposed state-wide.

In Lawrence, drivers continue to fill up, but Dave Tanner, KU Freshman, said he's taking steps to cut down on his energy use.

"Personally, while I'm driving on the highway I only barely touch the gas and don't use cruise control. It's been proven that if you do that along with not using your AC and your windows up you'll get good gas milage," Tanner said.

Others are also exploring alternatives to gas consumption. Bob Dotson, Lawrence resident, suggests investing in electric.

"Electric scooters and electric bikes! I mean if you really want to save on fuel they're reasonable, reasonable, reasonable. They'll get you all over town. You can really save on fuel... I mean miles per gallon. The way gas is, I encourage everybody to go out and get an electric bike," Dotson said.

Mellissa Padgett, Lawrence resident, said she saves money by riding the bus and insulating her house.
