The Kansas women's basketball team (9-0, 0-0 Big 12) defeated Creighton (2-6, 0-0 Missouri Valley) 63-52 Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Now, the Jayhawks are only two games away from tying their 11-0 winning streak record. KU was held to a season-low 63 points after a slow start, trailing Creighton for most of the first half until taking a halftime lead of 29-27. After the intermission, KU held Creighton to 31 percent shooting and at one point, led by as many as 13 points. Crystal Kemp led KU with 16 points, Erica Hallman followed with 15 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Creighton's Kristi Woodard gave KU trouble again this year making 23 points but KU held the Blue Jay's leading scorer, Angie Janis, to just five points. Head coach, Bonnie Henrickson credited assistant coach Karen Lange on preparing the 'Hawks to control Janis' attack. "Last year she killed us with 24 (points) and Coach said to make sure we went out there and got some defensive pressure on her," Kemp said. "I was worried about her because she is a lot smaller and a lot quicker than I am so I knew I had to buckle down on defense." The undefeated Jayhawks will try to continue their winning streak next Wednesday as they take on Pepperdine at 7 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse.
