The Kansas Warm Homes project plans to provide over 10,000 Kansas residents with winterization aid.
Douglas county will receive 265 winterization kits from the project, but it is expected that more residents will need help during the winter months.
Volunteers working with the Kansas Warm Home project realize there will not be enough to help every resident wanting a kit. The volunteers are encouraging Lawrence residents to donate to help create extra kits.
Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius approved the effort of the Kansas Warm Homes project to help winterize the homes of low income residents.
The winterization kits include 10,000 hour light bulbs and an energy and water saving showerhead.
The kits will be given out on a first come first serve basis and can be installed by the residents themselves. If residents need help in the installation process, area volunteers are also available to install the kits.
For those residents interested in the winterization kits, applications are accepted at the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Building.
