In some places, it is common to use a credit card without signing a receipt, like paying at the pump at gas stations. Some merchants, like KU dining area The Underground, have been following this practice to make shopping quicker.

But this bypasses a critical step. When customers do not need to sign a receipt, there is no verification of their identity.

Some think this trend carries the risk of identity theft, but others think this trend is a convenience, not a problem.

"Not having to sign here, I don't know how many times somebody actually turns around and looks at my ID anyway and actually verify the signature," KU senior Adam Wisniesai said.

Others considered the Internet a more serious risk for identity theft. This trend is expected to continue to grow because people now have the ability to monitor their account information online.
