Kansas (13-11, 5-10 Big 12) defeated No. 24 Kansas State (16-8, 7-7 Big 12) 30-28, 24-30, 30-21 and 30-25, Saturday night in Manhattan.
The win over the Wildcats was the first for Kansas coach Ray Bechard and the first for Kansas since Nov. 16, 1994.
Emily Brown, Savannah Noyes and Andi Rozum led the offensive attack. Brown had 19 kills and 12 digs, Noyes and Rozum both set career bests with 11 kills. Libero Jamie Mathewson also hit a new career high with 20 digs.
Kansas, a team plagued with service errors in the past eight losses, committed only 11 service errors while K-State missed 13 serves.
K-State only hit .027 in game one, allowing Kansas to come away with the victory. In game two, Kansas comitted 10 attack errors while K-State hit an impressive .244.
Kansas started game three on a 12-6 run, but K-State came back, bringing the score to 21-20 in Kansas' favor. After a timeout, Kansas went on a 9-1 run, winning game three.
Kansas kept the momentum alive in game four, taking a 21-14 lead. Kansas won game four, ending K-State's 21-match winning streak against Kansas.
Kansas travels to Norman, Okla., on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match against the Oklahoma Sooners at McCasland Fieldhouse.
