The Salvation Army homeless shelter and center is relocating. Salvation Army officials said that the decision to move was made in an effort to expand facilities and offer new services.
The new site for the facility will be located near the intersection of Haskell and Lynn streets in East Lawrence. It will offer private dormitories with real beds, as opposed to the mats currently used. Wesley Dalberg, Salvation Army administrator, said the new location will also allow the shelter to service the homeless better.
"To our current homeless clients, we will probably be expanding our services to really help them to move from homelessness back to employment and having their own place and being a productive part of the community," Dalberg said. "That's our real goal."
Currently, the Salvation Army offers most of its services to families and single women with children.
