Lyndon Johnson was president, the Vietnam War was reaching a peak and the KU football team had just beaten Nebraska on the road, 23-13. The year was 1968 and it was the last time Kansas defeated the Cornhuskers on the gridiron.

As the Jayhawks welcome the Cornhuskers to Lawrence this weekend, KU fans are predicting an end to the embarrassing streak. Coach Mark Mangino says he can see where they're coming from.

Since the streak began so long ago, there are a lot of other reasons why this game is important to his players, he said.

Kickoff is set for noon on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
