Lawrence High Head Basketball Coach Gets Win no. 200

Reece Dunker

Mike Lewis, Lawrence High’s Head Basketball Coach, picked up career win no. 200, after defeating Olathe East. Coach Lewis has been at the helm of Lawrence High for 13 seasons. Under Lewis, the Lions have reached the state tournament, every year since 2016.

His success has been felt across the community. Former player and LHS supporter, Tyler Bradford said, “You know he was consistent every day and that was something you wanted to bring to practice, as well. In the games, the guy has a passion for basketball. He’s been doing this for a long time.”

Mike Lewis’ tenure as Head Coach, has seen some controversy. He was fired in 2014, after an early postseason exit. Players and parents then expressed their frustration and he was quickly reinstated. Since then, all Lewis and the Lions have done is win.

Lewis will have a chance to add on a few more this season, depending on how far Lawrence High advances in the postseason.
