KU Hockey Team Asks for Funding from University Blog Campus KU Sports 12/06/2017 Tweet Devonte Graham does not have to worry about paying for a hotel or a meal when the basketball team travels but players on the club hockey team are having to pay for their stays out of pocket. They have to fund their own travel, food and rooms at each tournament. The hockey team wants to jump from division 3 to D-2, but they’ll need funding from KU for that to happen. The head coach says that funding benefits the university as well. “There is a good amount of northern students from Minnesota you know you get a lot of hockey fans and hockey players, I think that if there was a nationally recognized club team, even though it is club, you would draw some people,” said Andy McConnell. Coach McConnell says collectively the clubbers pay about a thousand dollars out-of-pocket for each game.
