“No way to get there” will no longer be a valid excuse as to why you can’t vote in this years election. The city of Lawrence will offer free bus rides November 7.
The city hopes this will encourage people to get out and vote in the general election. The city did this last year during voting season to help those without transportation get to the polls.
Lawrence Transit Administrator Robert Nugent says the city is proud to offer the free rides.
He posted a statement on the city’s website: “Voting is a fundamental human right and we want to make sure that voters do not face transportation obstacles on election day.”
Voters will elect new city commissioners and school board members. They will also decide on three new taxes. The city encourages people to verify their polling places at www.douglascountyks.org.
