With Kansas City’s bid for Amazon’s new headquarters turned in, some people in Lawrence are already thinking what that could bring to Douglas County.
Amazon predicts their proposed second campus will bring $5 billion and create 50,000 high-paying jobs in the surrounding areas. With Lawrence in commuting distance of the proposed sites, jobs could spill into Douglas County, bringing a large economic boost.
“Those people will be bringing in very high salaries, at least 20-100 thousand dollar salaries minimum. Those people will be requiring services too, and that will lead to a business boom in that area,” says KU Associate Researcher of Economics Abir Mandal.
Amazon will make their decision early next year and start construction in 2019.
