Lawrence Police Face Gunman in 7-Hour Standoff Blog Local News 10/18/2017 Tweet Lawrence Police were in a seven-hour standoff with a gunman who threatened officers and neighbors on Monday. Officers responded to 1014 E. 27th St. around 4:30 p.m. when a man called to report hearing gunshots. Officers soon learned that the caller was the one doing the shooting. Police evacuated the area. It took seven hours but eventually they got the armed suspect to come out of the house. They took him to a hospital for a mental evaluation. Police have not yet charged him with a crime.
