Kansas and Missouri will face each other this weekend in an exhibition format entitled the Showdown for Relief.
It’s the first time the two schools have met since Missouri left the Big 12 in 2012. The Jayhawks are coming off of their 13th straight Big 12 title and an Elite Eight appearance. While Missouri comes in with a new head coach Cuonzo Martin and the number one player in the 2017 class Michael Porter Jr., coach Bill Self said this has nothing to do with rivalry.
“[The exhibition] had everything to do with how can we send the most money to those victims,” Self said. “There was no doubt, no disrespect to Washburn, but I think the Missouri game will probably draw a little bit more interest and be able to create some more funds.”
The game will take place this Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Tickets sold out early Tuesday.
