Kansas Democratic leaders say the Kansas legislature should have independent attorneys investigate sexual harassment claims against its members.
The proposal comes after a former Chief of Staff publicly alleged sexual harassment against a democratic lawmaker in 2015. Minority leader Jim Ward promised to strip committee assignments from lawmakers in his party who are found guilty of misconduct.
House democrats will also undergo sexual harassment training in December. Republicans say the change is not needed and they trust the legislative services offices to handle investigations of sexual harassment.
