Kansas Legislature is back in session after a three-week recess. Lawmakers are working to finally set the state’s budget.
Kansas Representative Dennis “Boog” Highberger says the lack of leadership is to blame for why Kansas doesn’t have a state budget. Highberger says the budget deficit is a result of past legislature.
“We’ve just done a lot of short turn fixes, borrowing money and moving things from idle funds and postponing payments, and we’re at a point where we can’t do that anymore,” Highberger said.
Highberger also says Kansas needs to require corporate entities to pay taxes and restore the top state income tax bracket to balance the budget
