The Kansas Club Hockey team defeated the Missouri Tigers in the Border Showdown Thursday night, 5-2.
After the first period, the Jayhawks were up 2-1 and were all tied up at 2 after the second period. Come the third period, KU sealed the deal, piling on three more goals.
Sophomore Miles Manson and senior Dan Superina both found the net twice, and freshman Jake Moelk added a goal for Kansas. Junior goalie Cooper Johnston had 24 saves on the night.
To top all the excitement off, the seniors gave the fans what they were anxiously waiting for.
With 11 seconds left on the clock, a fight broke out that ejected KU seniors Rhett Johnston, Jack Halbrook, and Nic Rakowski.
The Jayhawks bringing home the trophy, proving the revenge and validation the up and coming team needs.
Head coach Andy McConnell said it was nerve-wracking for the first two periods and the key to winning was not giving up.
“We won as a team. All 21 guys played their hearts out,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming.”
