The University of Kansas’s International Student Services Office is taking measures to make sure students feel safe on campus.
The 2016 election inspired a great deal of anxiety for students around the country. In response to this fear and anxiety, the International Student Services Office organized a solidarity march on campus called “Walk With Me.”
KU students and faculty joined together to show their support for international students who may be scared in the current political climate. At the march, organizers emphasized how students are safe and welcome on campus. Organizers also mentioned the new campus “Safe Escort” program, which was created to walk frightened international students to class.
The program has over 700 volunteers so far, and only a few students are taking advantage of it. To volunteer or use the “Safe Escort” program, call the International Student Services Office at 785-864-3617.
