Target’s implementation of transgender bathrooms has caused protests and boycotts from one conservative group.
More boycotts are being planned just in time for the holiday shopping season.
The American Family Association came out with another petition that informed shoppers that they should avoid Target this holiday season because of their supporter for the LGBTQ community.
But how will those protests and boycotts affect business, especially during this holiday shopping season? KU Marketing Professor Doug Clopton broke it down.
“If you look at it from a marketing standpoint, Target’s goal is to simply satisfy their stakeholders,” Clopton said.
Clopton said it’s impossible to please every stakeholder.
“Companies tend to not want to get into the political arena because their markets are so varied,” Clopton said. “Their whole goal, again, is to simply satisfy the customer.”
So Clopton’s advice?
Companies should always stay out of the political arena as much as possible.
Target is spending $20 million to expand bathroom options at all of its stores.
