Lawrence Celebrates Veterans Day

On Nov. 11, the City of Lawrence celebrated Veterans Day in order to honor those who have served the United States in the armed forces. However, some discontinuity between federal and local celebrations took place. Lawrence schools and banks are closed, but city offices remain open.

Furthermore, not all businesses in Lawrence chose to celebrate Veterans Day in the same way. Some businesses are not participating in the Veterans Day celebrations until Saturday, Nov. 12 or even Monday, Nov. 14.

However, several special occasions will take place in Lawrence this weekend. There is a 5K on campus which starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13. The Dole Institute of Politics will host a Gala for Veterans at 6 p.m.

On Monday, Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Pkwy., will host a free breakfast buffet for Veterans from 7 to 11 a.m. Applebee’s, 2520 Iowa St., will serve free entrees for Veterans all day.
