The Lawrence Utilities Department has issued a temporary health and stream advisory for the Naismith Creek.
The advisory is for the area in and around 31st and Louisiana Street.
The Utilities Department says the advisory is a result of a sanitary sewage overflow. This has caused potentially elevated bacteria levels and contamination in the water in this area. The city has posted signs around the creek warning citizens to not fish, swim or allow their pets into the water until the city has cleared the area.
They are currently monitoring the creek and conducting sampling of the water. Once these tests show that there is no contamination the city will remove the advisory.
