Jose Munoz, a former University of Kansas track and field team member, traveled to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games not as an athlete but as a volunteer in the USA hospitality house.
Munoz was tasked with creating a home away from home for the athletes and their families. Due to his past experiences as an athlete, Munoz felt a strong connection to the games.
“The interactions that I had with the athletes, it just was very humbling,” Munoz said.
In addition to sitting in the fourth row at the opening ceremonies and collecting pins to hang in his office, Munoz said that one of the best parts of the trip was meeting other Jayhawk fans in Rio.
