Lawrence Sees Rise in Use of Game-Day Buses

The city of Lawrence and the University of Kansas are pairing up to run buses from downtown Lawrence to Memorial Stadium on home game days this season.

Bus number 11 will take passengers from three downtown bus stops and will drop them off at Memorial Stadium.

Fans can park in three downtown parking garages for free and then bus to Memorial Stadium for a fee of 50 cents. The buses run two hours before kick-off and one hour after the game.

Downtown, fans can park in the Vermont street parking garage, the New Hampshire street parking garage next to the library or the lower-level ramps of the Riverfront parking garage.

“Out of those three parking garages, I think the 933 New Hampshire parking garage is the one that people use the most,” Lawrence Public Transit Administrator Robert Nugent said.

After almost a decade of this service, the city has seen a rise in the amount of fans using the game-day buses recently.

“Last Saturday, we had about 1,500 or so that rode from downtown,” Nugent said.
