Kansas Drops National Semi to Nebraska

Semifinals for the NCAA Volleyball National Championship were held on Thursday night at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha Nebraska.

Texas secured the first spot beating Minnesota 3-1. In the second match of the night, Nebraska took home the victory against Kansas. The overall score was 3 sets to 1.

Although Kansas lost, they went the farthest in program history making it to the final four. Three players and one coach also received national awards. Ainise Havili and Kelsie Payne both received AVCA All-America First Team and Janae Hall received the Elite 90 award. Coach Laura “Bird” Kahn was named AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Ainise Havili “I’m super proud of this team and super proud of how far we’ve come. I think after the loss Cassie [Wait] sat everyone down in the locker room and said you know what this isn’t a goal anymore. This is a standard this is an expectation. You know we’re good enough to be here next year and the year after, and we expect to.”

Kansas is only losing one starter next year and fans are excited to see what the program can do next season.
