March Madness officially started for both the KU women’s and men’s basketball teams yesterday afternoon — a time when most students are on campus. But one student organization made it possible for them to stay updated on the games.
Student Union Activities hosted Big 12 Watch Parties on Wednesday through Friday this week on the fourth floor of the Kansas Union. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. students were invited to the Traditions area to watch the Big 12 Conference tournament and enjoy snacks courtesy of KU Catering.
Dakota Strange, SUA Spirit Coordinator, said this isn’t the first time the organization has done an event like this to promote school spirit.
“We do a bunch of different things. A watch party is just one of the aspects,” Strange said. “We did tailgates and stuff like that for football so it’s kind of a similar feel.”
Thursday afternoon, the men’s team beat the Texas A&M Aggies to advance to the semifinals of the tournament where they will face the Baylor Bears. Tip-off is set for 6:30 pm. on ESPNU.
